Legend of the Blue Sea is a 2016-2017 South Korean television series starring Jun Ji-hyun and Lee Min-ho. Inspired by a classic Joseon legend from Korea's first collection of unofficial historical tales about a fisherman who captures and releases a mermaid, this drama tells the love story between a con-artist and a mermaid who travels across the ocean to find him. Synopsis: In 1586, a mermaid named Se-hwa is washed ashore during a storm. She is captured by the village prefect and presented to the newly arrived governor, Kim Dam-ryung. Dam-ryung takes pity on Se-hwa and releases her back into the sea. Before she swims away, Se-hwa gives Dam-ryung a jade bracelet as a token of her gratitude. 430 years later, Se-hwa is reborn as Shim Cheong, a mermaid living in the present day. She follows Dam-ryung's reincarnation, Heo Joon-jae, to Seoul, but she is quickly overwhelmed by the modern world. Cheong accidentally breaks into Joon-jae's hotel room and steals food. Joon-jae is a con artist, and he is immediately drawn to Cheong's innocence and beauty. Joon-jae decides to help Cheong adjust to life on land. He teaches her about human customs and helps her to find a job. Cheong is grateful for Joon-jae's kindness, and she slowly begins to fall in love with him. However, Cheong's presence in Seoul attracts the attention of Ma Dae-young, a ruthless businessman who is determined to capture her and sell her for her jade bracelet. Dae-young hires a team of bounty hunters to track Cheong down, and Joon-jae must use all of his cunning to protect her.
