November 22 The Myanmar Human Rights Alliance (M.H.A.C) and the Myanmar Workers’ Rights NGO are assisting in the compensation and funeral arrangements for seven Myanmar nationals who died in a hit-and-run accident in Thailand on the night of November 19. The seven people who died in the accident include two CDM workers, a CDM from the fire department, and a CDM teacher. The deceased are identified as driver Ko Aung Aung Oo (29), Ko Lin Zaw Aung (31), Ma Zar Zar Oo (31), Ma Thiri Ko Ko (24), Ma Hnin Ko Ko (21), Ma Aye Thet Mon (29) and Ma Aye Myat Mon (27). Their funerals will be held separately in Nakhon Pathom and Pathom Thani. “The police have filed a case of murder and undocumented transportation in connection with the accident. The car owner has been charged, but the car owner has denied knowing him. Since all the Burmese except the driver are undocumented, the Thai police can file a case against him. We have contacted the families of all the deceased,” Ko Ye Min of the (M.H.A.C) Alliance told The Irrawaddy Times. In addition, the (M.H.A.C) Alliance has assisted two of the deceased, a couple, to obtain appropriate compensation, while an NGO that helps Myanmar workers in Thailand is assisting the remaining five. However, the car that overturned did not have insurance, so the process of obtaining compensation for the deceased will be difficult. The accident occurred in Pathon Thani District, The seven Burmese people who were traveling from Talat Thai Market to work in another district were stopped by Thai police in Ban Lin Township, Khun Pathon District, when they were stopped by Thai police and hit a roadside electricity pole, causing the car to overturn, killing all seven Burmese people in the car.
